Walking for the Years Ahead
I'm approaching fifty and walking a little over seven kilometers a day on average. The goal is to keep moving in the years ahead, even when I don't feel like heading out today.

I'm not fifty yet. But I can see it from here.
One of the things I've started doing is walking more. Usually, I try to get four or five kilometers in first thing in the morning, another couple around lunchtime, and sometimes a little more later in the day. Depending on the weather, I'm averaging a little over seven kilometers a day.
It's not perfectly consistent. But I'm working on it.
The reason is pretty simple: I want to keep moving when I'm older. I want to be able to keep doing the things I enjoy in the years ahead.
And if I'm being honest, I still don't always want to go for the walk.
But I'm doing it. The consistency is helping.
That's the part I'm trying to hold on to. I don't need to wake up excited about walking every morning. I need to keep making room for it.
Now we're heading into fall and winter here in Wisconsin. We'll see how that conversation with myself goes when it's cold outside.
My hope is that the routine I'm building now will help me keep going as the weather changes. I haven't figured that part out yet, but I want to keep at it.
Future me would probably appreciate it.
What helps you keep a routine going through the colder months?
