This Is My Story. AI Helps Me Tell It Better.

From stand-up comedy to adult education, product development, and agentic AI, storytelling has been the thread through my career. AI helps me put those stories into words and pictures.

Hat in the Loop's red-cap storyteller holds a microphone beside scenes of stand-up comedy, adult education, and workflow design. An AI laptop helps turn his ideas into words and pictures beneath the headline, My story. AI helps me tell it.

I'm a terrible writer. My grammar is rough. My punctuation usually needs help.

But I've always been a storyteller.

When I was younger, I spent a few years doing stand-up comedy, including two years full-time. Unfortunately, I discovered a pretty important requirement for continuing to make money in that profession.

You have to be funny.

So I explored some other career options.

That eventually led me to adult education, and I fell in love with it. Storytelling was a big reason why.

I could walk people through how we got somewhere. What happened? What did we try? What went wrong? Why did the next decision matter?

For me, that was how a lesson became something people could connect with and remember. A story gave the information somewhere to live.

That same approach followed me into product development.

Before I could help build something useful, I needed to understand the person who would use it. What were they trying to accomplish? Where were they getting stuck? What would a better experience actually look like?

That person's story helped guide the product. It also helped with support, because understanding how someone got into a problem made it easier to help them out of it. Sometimes it helped us anticipate the problem in the first place.

Now I get to do this every day with agentic AI.

A big part of my work is understanding how somebody gets their job done. What starts the process? Who gets involved? Where does the information go? What happens when something doesn't go according to plan?

I'm listening to the story of their work.

Then we get to ask: how can we make that story better? Where could an AI co-worker help? What could we simplify so the person doing the work has a better day?

I love that part.

And there's something pretty personal about what these tools make possible for me, too.

I've always had stories to tell. Getting them into writing has been harder. AI helps me organize my thoughts, clean up the grammar, and turn an idea into something I can actually share.

This post included.

The experiences are mine. The opinions are mine. The character and the ideas behind the cartoons are mine. AI helps me turn those ideas into words and images, and get them out into the world faster.

I'm grateful for that.

I'm not claiming to be a highly skilled artist or a polished writer. I'm being open about the help I use. If you call this AI-assisted content, you're right. I'm comfortable with that.

I hope you enjoy my version of these stories. If something doesn't connect, tell me. I'm always willing to listen.

I'm a storyteller.

This is my story. And AI lets me tell it better.
