Five Hours and a Lot of Movie Quotes

Heading to RES in Minneapolis with Matt, a rental car, and plenty to talk about. Presentation prep, client conversations, snack stops, and probably far too many movie quotes.

Today's the day. We're heading to Minneapolis for RES.

I could fly from Milwaukee, but I'm choosing about five hours in a rental car. The reason is simple: when we're finished on Wednesday, I can get in the car and head home. I like being able to leave when I'm ready.

Local traffic? Hate it. A long drive with good company? I actually look forward to that.

And I've got good company. One of my closest friends and coworkers, Matt, is coming with me.

We'll use some of that time to talk through my presentation, go over client meetings, and work through the things that deserve more than a quick conversation between other meetings. A few hours together gives us room to actually talk.

There will also be snacks. Probably a Kwik Trip stop. Hopefully a diner lunch.

And a lot of movie quotes.

Tommy Boy will almost certainly make an appearance. So will Planes, Trains and Automobiles, my personal favorite movie. Hopefully the similarities stay limited to the dialogue.

We've got meetings lined up when we arrive, so the drive out is mostly about getting there. But I do love the little things that make a road trip fun. The conversation. The food stops. Something ridiculous on the side of the road that gives you another thing to talk about.

What makes a long drive fun for you? Car games? Music? Movie quotes? Roadside attractions? A diner you always stop at?

Time to pick up the rental car and get moving.

Thanks to the folks at SICK for inviting us. See you in Minneapolis.
