Bobcat’s Jobsite Companion

The next equipment feature worth watching might be help.

Bobcat’s Jobsite Companion caught my attention because it brings AI directly into the cab. According to Bobcat, operators can use voice commands for more than 50 machine functions, get machine guidance, and apply attachment settings. It runs onboard without needing an internet connection for normal operation.

I’ve spent a good part of my career around training and technical communications. We put enormous effort into helping people understand equipment. Then they get into the cab, the work starts, and a question comes up.

That gap between learning something and needing it is where I see a real opportunity.

Imagine how useful it could be to get the right guidance for the machine you’re operating, at the moment you need it. The operator still brings the judgment and remains in control. The assistance helps make the machine’s capabilities easier to use.

It also raises the stakes for the information behind the answer. Accurate procedures, configuration details, and service knowledge become part of the operating experience. Technical writers, trainers, and service teams have a lot to contribute here.

I haven’t tested Jobsite Companion in the real world yet, and I want to see how it performs through a normal workday. But this is a direction worth watching.

For the equipment people in my network: where would in-cab assistance help most attachment setup, machine questions, or troubleshooting?
